Course Description

This course, led by instructor Mike Carroll, provides an in-depth exploration of the financial and accounting considerations surrounding healthcare technology investments. From electronic health records (EHRs) and telehealth platforms to AI tools and cloud-based SaaS systems, learners will examine the strategic and technical processes for evaluating and managing tech-enabled assets in healthcare environments.

Key learning objectives include calculating return on investment (ROI), understanding total cost of ownership, and applying models like payback period, NPV, and IRR. Participants will also learn how to differentiate between capitalizable and non-capitalizable costs under GAAP and IFRS, apply appropriate amortization methods, and identify disclosure requirements relevant to patient data systems, software licenses, and deferred revenue.

The course concludes with a detailed review of how these technology assets are reflected on financial statements, including the income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement. Ideal for CPAs, healthcare finance professionals, and accounting teams working with health tech investments, this course equips you with the knowledge to ensure accurate reporting, strategic investment decisions, and compliance with financial standards.
